School History

Marton Junction School was built in 1923

We are a full primary school. The opening roll this year was 83. The school grade is U2. We are a decile 2 school.

Our school is the base for Rangitikei’s Resource Teacher: Literacy and the Rangitikei Resource Teacher of Maori. We share our mobile Dental Therapists with other schools. The Public Health Nurse with responsibility for our school is Marilyn Archibald.

We have a Total Immersion Maori Language Unit that consists of 2 classes, Teina– Years 1-3 and Tuakana Years 4-8.

We have an attached Community Preschool. The contact person for information on the Preschool is Whaea Karen – 06 327 8844. The Preschool
lease a classroom and playground area at the western end of the main block.

The main school building was remodeled in 1987 and now has 6 fully carpeted classrooms. We also have a library and a school hall.  The administration area was upgraded in 2005. Classrooms were upgraded  in 2009. All classrooms were outfitted with new furniture at the start of 2010.

We have a regulation sized swimming pool, an adventure playground, a hard ground area, and an astrograss area including 3 netball and 2 tennis courts as well as hockey field markings. We also have a community garden with 6 planter boxes and a chicken coop.  We have started to plant an orchard down the far side of the field.  We also have a large playing field with an all-weather cricket pitch.
